Native American village, walking trail proposed for Whitehall burial grounds

West Michigan visitors may soon find a new attraction for history buffs that could bring a few more tourism dollars to the lakeshore region. A modern visitor center, walking trails, and a tribal village are just some of the ideas put forth for 232 acres along the White River, acreage traditionally known as a Native American burial ground.

According to excerpts from the story:

The fate of Hilt’s Landing seems to have drastically changed after plans for the 232 acres of historical Native American land was discussed at a public hearing Tuesday night at Whitehall Township Hall.

If enough money can be raised, the land that had been proposed by former owner, Muskegon County, in 2001 to house a public golf course, might now become a themed walking trail to include, among other things, a historical logging camp and fur trader cabin.
