Schools teach by example as much as by academics, and one West Michigan public school system has set a remarkable example for a whole community by garnering a national award in recognition of the schools’ energy conservation program.

The Rockford Public School District has announced that the federal government's Energy Star program has bestowed the prestigious Energy Star label on 13 of its buildings. This recognition is presented to the most energy efficient school buildings in the country.
"We are extremely pleased to receive this recognition from Energy Star," said Superintendent Dr. Michael Shibler. "Our energy conservation efforts are saving taxpayer dollars while also helping protect our local environment.
