The seventh major project initiated by the $165 million tax increase approved by voters in 2004 will create a new school with modern technology, air conditioning, and double student capacity.

According to excerpts from the story:

Dickinson Elementary Principal Dorothy Johnson said parents frequently finish sentences for her when she talks about the new school that is to rise alongside her 86-year-old building.

“I say, ‘The thing I’m most excited about is …’ and parents always jump in and say, ‘Air conditioning!'” Johnson said. “It gets pretty hot in here.”

“This is long overdue,” Johnson said of the new construction. “Our kids deserve better, and that’s what we’re going to give them with this new school. We’re going to have the modern technology and the special areas that will be conductive to learning.”
