Walking through neighborhoods near Sibley Elementary School Thursday, decked out in his white shirt and tennis shoes, Grand Rapids Superintendent Bernard Taylor was a hit with teenagers.
During their rounds to promote the schools, Taylor and Sibley Elementary Principal MaryAnn Prisichenko introduced themselves to residents and invited parents to enroll their children in the new $10.3 million Sibley school, which opens this fall. They also dodged a few dogs.
For residents, having a superintendent take to the streets has been interesting.
"I think it will get more kids in the school," said Selena Mays, 13, an eighth-grader at Westwood Middle School.
