On July 13, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Director Steven Chester assured an audience gathered for a groundbreaking for the proposed redevelopment of the contaminated tannery site in Whitehall that it would be safe when the cleanup is completed.
On Tuesday night, Chester's special assistant was in town to tell the city council how the DEQ was going to help make that happen. He provided a general overview of the ongoing negotiations for a final cleanup plan and the main issues being addressed.
