Several lakeshore communities are considering the possibility of creating a regional transit system that connects the municipalities. Proponents say it sounds good and have launched a feasibility study.

Hundreds of West Michigan residents were stopped last week and asked to fill out surveys about their driving habits. No, the survey givers weren't recruiting NASCAR drivers. The surveys are part of a massive $99,980 study to find whether a regional bus system connecting Grand Haven, Muskegon, Holland and Grand Rapids is necessary and financially practical.
"Ultimately, the focus of this study is to see if it's feasible to implement regional transit services," said Joey Goldman, a principal with the transit planning firm Nelson Nygaard Associates. "If it is deemed feasible, we'll provide some strategy on how to offer that service."
