As energy costs rise, the push for municipalities to develop alternative energy sources gains momentum prompting one forward-thinking West Michigan city to produce its own wind power and offset a portion of residential electricity consumption.

Zeeland, MI — The Zeeland Board of Public Works might erect two 120-foot wind turbines in Holland Township.
The Zeeland City Council Monday, Aug. 18, approved the $500,000 project, as well as a 25-year lease agreement with the township, which will lease the proposed turbines’ site to the city for $1 per year.
