Proposed national forest wind farm could cleanly power 20,000 lakeshore homes

A push to create clean energy from 28 giant wind turbines in a West Michigan national forest is the second for the region, a near-promise that reliance on other means of electricity will be lessened for nearby residents in the future.

According to excerpts from the story:

MASON COUNTY -- West Michigan's second proposed commercial wind farm will be the focus of two meetings this week.

Residents who attend will be able to view displays and diagrams concerning the proposed wind farm in the Huron-Manistee National Forest, north of Ludington, and provide the U.S. Forest Service with feedback and concerns.

White Pines Wind Farm LLC, a subsidiary of BP Alternative Energy, applied for a special use permit from the U.S. Forest Service in hopes of constructing 20 to 28 large wind turbines in the national forest north of Forest Trail in Mason County's Grant Township, just north of Hamlin Lake.
