Two major employers in West Michigan have dared ask the questions: what do young, up and coming professionals want from a job, a work place, an employers? Working with universities around the globe to get the answers, these companies could create a new paradigm aimed at attracting and keeping the talent that will spur economic growth for decades.

She’s young, educated and in the early stages of her career.

And she sees herself and her generation as wanting work to mean more than just a paycheck. It’s the experience and quality of life that counts more.

“We’re the type of people who want to love what we do,” said Rebecca Howe, a 23-year-old associate at Lambert Edwards & Associates public relations in Grand Rapids. “It’s more important for our generation. I don’t think we would settle for just taking a job and having a job. It’s finding the right job that’s going to make us happy and allow ourselves to give to.”
