Green builders launch 2007 design competition
The West Michigan Chapter of the US Green Building Council kicked off its NaturalTalent 2007 Design Competition this week in Grand Rapids.
The competition, which aims to showcase the talents of leaders in the green building movement, focuses on the principles of integrated design, sustainability, innovation, and social consciousness; all of which are components of the LEED Green Building Rating System.
Participants of the event will compete in a local competition, and the winner will move on to compete for a national award at the 2007 Greenbuild conference in Los Angeles. Past national winners include a Habitat for Humanity house designed by North Carolina State University and temporary school facilities designed by architects in Washington, D.C.
Goals of the design competition include broadening environmental education in the building profession, empowering students and young professionals in the green building movement to become future leaders, and raising awareness of exemplary design ideas.
The Competition is open to university students and individuals with less than five years experience in the building industry. Both individuals and teams are permitted to enter.
Projects are due in April. The winner receives $1,000 and a trip to the national level competition.
