State Games of Michigan to open this summer at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids

The West Michigan Sports Commission has announced details for its first State Games of Michigan, saying an impressive ceremony will open the three-day sporting competition on June 25 at the Van Andel Arena, with Meijer agreeing to be the title sponsor. The event will feature 15 sports and draw an estimated 3,500 Michigan athletes to the Grand Rapids area.

Doug Small, the president of the Grand Rapids/Kent County Visitors & Convention Bureau, estimated that the games will produce an economic impact of nearly $700,000 for West Michigan. "What an economic boost for a community," Small said.
