Wayne Hancock – Cabin Fever Cured
Each week, Rapid Growth’s staff sifts through digital stacks of press releases. But this week, a strange request found its way to my inbox seeking coverage for an event because it was guaranteed to cure cabin fever.
So with nearly another foot of snow, I decided to give visiting rockabilly artist Wayne Hancock a spin.
Immediately as the first chords of this distinct guitar sound made popular by country legend Hank Williams chugged down the rail, thoughts of the cold stuff melted away as tunes like the Flat Land Boogie “Where the Mercy is High” filled my room with sound.
The ever-touring Austin, Texas native embraces country music’s simpler roots in his shows, avoiding all the glitz and glam associated with most players in this field.
A performer since a very young age, his music has not only been covered by Hank Williams III but has also traveled with the space shuttle as one of the musical selections for the astronauts.
Hancock’s artistic proficiency in replicating that country swing style on the guitar will surely have people packing the dance floor as they kick up the dust. The slow numbers will provide the best opportunities to slow dance.
Country music may not be your thing, but music this honest and fun might be just what the doctor would order to break our cabin fever as we give way to spring….or it is schwing?
