$10,000 will build region’s first wind turbine at Calvin

Enough talk about alternative energy. Calvin College is actually building it.

Calvin students recently secured a $5,000 grant, which will be matched by the college, to build a wind turbine on campus.

The proposed turbine will be the first one built in west Michigan and will power lights and computers at Calvin’s nature center.

Officials at Grand Valley State University also are investing $18,000 to study the possiblity of wind energy on the Allendale campus.
