Tulipanes means Tulip in Spanish

The Seventh Annual Tulipanes Latino Art and Film Festival kicks off on August 30 in downtown Holland. The Labor Day-weekend event is the region’s most extensive celebration of Latino music, film, poetry, visual arts, salsa dancing, and more.

So you did the Saugatuck Waterfront Film Festival in June. You ventured north for the Traverse City Film Festival at the end of July. And now you’re sitting at home surfing Netflix while chomping at the bit for the True North Film Festival to open on September 14 in downtown GR. Never fear. Holland has just the cinema fix you crave.

The Seventh Annual Tulipanes Latino Art and Film Festival kicks off on August 30, 2007 in downtown Holland. The weekend-long celebration offers a variety of food, music and, of course, film. This year’s event includes 17 feature length, documentary, and short films about various aspects and stories of Latino life shown in venues throughout the city.

Also headlining this year’s event is El Arte Popular Mexicano, an exbition highlighting Mexico’s rich artistic tradition, and a Salsa night at the Holland Armory complete with a live 7-piece band and latin dance lessons

The Tulipanes Festival was organized in 2001 to showcase the role the Latino community plays in West Michigan’s cultural and economic vitality. For more information, and a schedule of the 2007 film series, click here to visit the Tulipanes web portal.
